Featured Artist: Dewa Sahadewa

These artworks were created by my friend Dewa who lives on the island of Bali. I met Dewa 10 years ago while walking through the rice paddies in Penestanan, near Ubud. Dewa lives with his family in a small simple home amongst the paddies.

He welcomed me with fruit and tea and showed me his artworks. He told me that the galleries in Ubud took 90% commission, leaving him with as little as $10 per painting. Over the years I have visited Dewa several times and always buy some paintings. Since the pandemic I have not been able to see Dewa but I have continued to communicate with him and his family. My goal is to continue to work with Dewa by commissioning more artworks, selling them and sending him the sale proceeds. The money makes an enormous difference to his family. It lets them have electricity in their home and educate their two boys.

I am not taking any commission from the sale of these works. I am a retired art teacher and it is a privilege to help others and promote a creative young artist. I am happy to answer any questions you may have.
