From 28 February to 5 March – the week left vacant by this year’s cancelled Adelaide Writers’
Week – the local writing community, including authors, booksellers and publishers, will come
together with a range of events for readers and writers under a one-off umbrella festival,
Constellations.
Organisers are inviting bookshops, libraries, schools and other venues and community groups across both Adelaide and the rest of the state to register events and get involved. Participants can organise an event independently, or the group is happy to play matchmaker, putting interested venues and authors in touch to coordinate details as needed.
Constellations Curatorial Statement
We draw on the strength of this land, which has supported, nurtured and shaped all life and community for tens of thousands of years.
Constellations is Not Writers’ Week and it does not seek to replace Adelaide Writers’ Week. It is an umbrella event that will allow writers, bookshops, organisations and those responsible for partnership programming who were to be involved with Adelaide Writers’ Week 2026 to create a space for the writing and reading community in the city of Adelaide in the absence of Writers’ Week.
In the spirit of justice and humanity, we denounce all forms of racism and violence.
We invite you to join us to create a safe space that celebrates writers and reading. One that supports and encourages open discourse and the sharing of ideas. We note that the right to freedom of speech should never be conflated with speech that supports racism, violent ideologies and harmful narratives.

At this stage we have no confirmed funding at all. We are calling for donations via Writers SA, our key nonprofit writing organisation. Donations via this link are tax deductible and 100% of funds will go to paying writers and event costs.
